P6 BBQ/overnight camp

Message
This is your last year in a primary school, on behalf of the staff in BLGPS, we wish that you will have a wonderful and memorable time in the camp. For those who could not join us, may you have that opportunity when you venture out to your next phase of your life.(Secondary School)

It's a time for you to get to appreciate each other more, to look at your friends and teachers in a different light even, and to think of the possibilities of forming your own contact network when you leave us...

Suggested Plan
On 3 Nov, Friday
1. Please report @700pm, school canteen and gather in your classes.
2. game @7.30pm
3. bbq session @800pm - 10pm, Ms Phua to confirm enough bbq pits with Mr Alvin and other bbq related matters
4. Mdm Norlaily to confirm with any OMs on provision of fans for good ventilation in hall and near bbq pits
5. 1000-1100 shower/free and easy time
6. 1100-1130 preparation for sleep in hall on gym mats
7. 1130 Sweet dreams...

On 4th Nov, Saturday
1. wake up call at 0600
2. breakfast at 0700
3. area cleaning 0730-0745
4. breakcamp at 0800
5. pupils are to ensure that you are ready and assemble in the canteen by 6.55a.m. LATEST for breakfast.
Leave nothing but footprints. Clear whatever that you've brought. Be accountable.

NOTE
1. pupils may wish to have a light dinner first before assembling at the canteen on 3rd Nov
2. Be careful while barbecuing food, safety at all times
3. Have a buddy at all times, e.g. while barbecuing food, going to showering rooms, etc
4. Please shower before coming to school. Note that there'll be about 200 pupils sharing A FEW shower rooms, be considerate and shower fast for next person's usage. Be considerate and keep the shower rooms clean and functional. Clear your hair and rubbish if needed to prevent flooding/choking of shower rooms. Come to school in school T-shirt. Wear 3/4 pants, track pants or jeans. Be responsible and accountable.

Medication
Please inform your teachers if you are on medication during the camp. Bring your own medication and keep them properly.

Tips on BBQ

1. gather into groups of 5
2. leader/assistant to get food for the members
3. uncooked food on 1 plate, cooked food on the other. DO NOT mix them.
4. another member to find a nice and cosy place for members
5. once ready for all, join the group to bbq the food
6. stand away from the smoke
7. test the food using a fork or satay stick to ensure there's no blood. Make sure the food is cooked before consumption.
8. Alternatively, 7 mins on one side, 5 mins on the other. This is just an estimation depending on the heat and type of food.
9. Teachers to put out the fire (water) after bbq session.
10. DO NOT waste food.
11. left to right, PIT 1 for 6/1 and 6/2. PIT 2 for 6/3. PIT 3 for 6/4 and so on.

Once again, BE ACCOUNTABLE, YOU are responsible for your own things and actions. EVERYONE does his/her part, you'll have a great time in the camp.:)

Creating Your Own Blog - ISSUES TO NOTE

Some concerns when working on a blog -

1. Plagiarism
Copying of someone's work and taking it as own.
2. Legal Liabilities
Copyright, defamation and racism
a. infringement of copyrights when attaching pictures, audio files, or any other files which may be copyrighted.
b. Do respect others' intellectual properties by seeking permission from the copyright owners before posting, or by acknowledging the source.
3. Express yourself responsibly
a. Do not post information that is hearsay or will hurt others' feelings. This may result in the act of defamation, where someone's reputation is adversely affected.
b. Cultivate respect for other races, esp. in our multi-racial society
c. Do not post any racist remark that demonstrates discrimination or prejudice against the other ethnic groups.

Anyone who violates the copyright acts or is found guilty of defamation or racism is liable to have legal actions taken against them.

Beach cleaning

A warm welcome...

May you have a great learning experience during your beach cleaning session

MESSAGE
Your actions affect the world around you and you can make a difference. You can care about your environment and do something about it.


At the end of the trip, your teacher would appoint at least 5 people to comment/reflect about the trip. You may wish to share your thoughts too. Please answer the following:
a. what you have learnt, how you can help
b.what's memorable about the trip
c. suggestions for the next batch of warriors

Things that will be provided for the cleaning -
1. gloves
2. garbage bags
3. tongs
4. activity sheets for pupils

Tips for outing - Pupils to Bring
1. a pen and a notebook
2. ointment for stomachache/headache
3. plastic bag for motion sickness
4. tissue/wet ones for cleaning hands
5. cap
6. umbrella/raincoat
7. plaster
8. water bottle
Note: Pls look after your belongings

TAKE NOTE
Do's
1. TASKS
for each class, form groups of 4-5 pupils each.
Suggested organisation of group members
a. 1 observer to note down members' activity
b. 2 pupils to hold onto and support a garbage bag
c. 1/2 to update data into data sheet

Activity sheets and 1 data sheet on type /quantity of rubbish collected would be issued to each group.

Preparation
1. teachers to explain the use of the data card
2. go through with the pupils pri_activity_book.pdf and read up the Seashore Prog-Primary_Teacher_Guide.pdf.
3. if time permits, please go through the video on beach clean up - http://www.malibufoundation.org/
4. teachers to divide beach areas for various classes
5. pupils to have buddies and in their groups

ALERT
1. Parents and teachers to have equal number of children.
2. Students to be in a buddy system before leaving the classroom.
3. Always use the tongs provided.
4. ALERT the teachers or parents for THEM to pick up dangerous objects like glass, debris and needles, to be placed in the pails provided.
5. Glass and other debris can be sharp.
6. When picking wooden planks, be careful of nails. Put them aside first and not into the garbage bag.
7. No students in the water! Climbing on rocks, playing near the water, wading and wave chasing where currents exist are all potentially dangerous activities and are prohibited.
8. Do not overload the garbage bags.
9. Put the garbage bags at designated areas.


Suggested plan
8-9am journey to East Coast Park - Meet at Carpark 3
9-915 teacher administration
915-1015 beach cleaning
1030 – 1100 picnic
1100-1200 journey back to school

For picnic – ensure that hands are clean before eating
Bring finger food e.g. sandwiches and cut fruits, mat.
While you are eating, you could work as a team on the activity worksheets.
